We also toured the old Montana prison which sits right on Main street in Deer Lodge. The prison tour ticket also includes a co-located auto museum.
Established in 1871 and constructed primarily with convict labor the prison operated until 1979.
The rock wall surrounding the prison is 4 feet thick at the bottom and 3 foot thick at the top.
All things considered…. a bit depressing.
The auto museum on the other hand was very impressive. They had everything from a 1855 Mormon hand cart to a 2008 Mini Cooper and 160 cars or trucks in between.
I think my favorites were the old trucks 😀.
They even had a car used in the “Mad Max” movies 😂
Quite a contrast. I also liked the cars and trucks the best.
I’m not an avid prison visitor. I found it very depressing. I skipped out of the tour after visiting the cells.
